posticon Hall Of Fame Inducts 4 Lansing Athletes and a Team

hof2011_120Each year the Lansing Athletics Hall Of Fame inducts new members in a ceremony held at the high school gym between the varsity and junior varsity basketball games.  This year four individual athletes and the 1986-1987 Women's Volleyball Team were inducted.  The volleyball team had the additional distinction of being the first women's team to be inducted since the Hall Of Fame was begun in 1998.

"We hope this evening's ceremony will encourage Lansing's current and future athletes to aspire to work hard and develop both individual and team accomplishments that may some day warrant consideration for induction into the Hall Of Fame," said Hall Of Fame Committee Chair Marty Christopher.

posticon Ithaca League of Women Rollers Accepted as WFTDA Apprentice

irdlThe Ithaca League of Women Rollers (ILWR) has been accepted as an apprentice affiliate of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), the governing body for women's amateur flat track roller derby.

“The Ithaca League of Women Rollers is excited to become a part of this revolutionary athletic organization,” said Momo-A-Gogo, ILWR’s WFTDA liaison. “Joining the WFTDA apprentice program gives our league the opportunity to grow into an even stronger competitive organization, while we continue to provide empowering athletic opportunities for women and girls in the Ithaca area,” she continued. WFTDA apprenticeship is a first step toward competing at the national level.

posticon Lansing Bowlers Challenge Watkins Glen

bowling_120In another large school division match Lansing traveled to Watkins Glen and took 4 out of 4 points on the boys side. There was a tough shot as scores were low today as Troy Hradisky started out with a 137 game and came back to roll a 255 / 594 series and was high bowler of the day. Joel Teitelboum rolled a 221 / 588 for second place followed by Trever Rounds 553.

On Watkins' side Billy Brennan with a 210 / 550 was the high bowler. On the girls side Watkins took 3 out of the 4 points as Samantha Bradley - 450, Krystal Delong - 448, and Kylee Carrigan - 435 led the way.

posticon Lansing Bowlers in Winter Meets

bowling_120Newark Valley came to Helen Newman Wednesday to bowl the Bobcats in a key match of the large school division. The Lansing boys struggled a little and it cost them points as Newark Valley took 3 of the 4 points. Newark Valley had to bowlers over 600 as they were Derek Fenn 234 / 669 and Angus Hines 210 / 605. Lansing had one lone bowler over 600 who was Trever Rounds 236 / 644, Tim Carlson 204 / 574 was next.

On the girls side it was much the same as Newark Valley took 3 of the 4 points with Kirsten Chase 229 / 567 leading the way followed by Ronnie Hines' 161 / 450. Lansing had freshman Melissa Seymore 154 / 408 as our lone star. Lansing travels to Watkins Glen on Thursday for another large school division match up.

posticon Lansing Bowlers Face Waverly

bowling_120Tuesday night at Helen Newman in a match up with rival Waverly some very interesting things happened. On the Boys side Waverly took all four points but not as easily as they had hoped, as the Lansing boys hung in though all ten frames.

The big scorer of the night was Jard Joseph of Waverly rolling 278 - 752 series, he was followed my Lansing's Troy Hradisky's 244 to 652. As the Lansing boys rolled to a 2920 total with Trever Rounds' 594, Tim Carlson's 588 and Joel Teitebaum's 581 is just wasn't enough as Waverly rolls 3075.

track2Last Saturday, the Lansing Boy's and Girl's indoor track teams competed at the 11th/12th grade Age Group meet at Cortland State.

posticon Lansing Looks Forward To a Strong Varsity Season

basketball_girls120Coming on the heels of a successful fall varsity season, Athletic Director Adam Heck says Lansing can look forward to a great winter season for basketball, bowling, indoor track, wrestling, and boys swim teams.  In addition, Lansing received the New York State Good Sport Award for Section 4.  The award is for the winter and spring seasons of last year, plus this fall's season.  Only 11 schools receive the award, granted by the New York State Sportsmanship Committee, among all the schools in the state.

"We were really proud to receive that," Heck says.  "I think that exemplifies our coaches and our student athletes.  It was a great year and a great fall season."

posticon Shooting Stars Invitational Tournament

hocky2_120Hosted by Tompkins Girls Hockey Association (TGHA), the Ithaca 19U and 14U Shooting Stars were among 24 teams competing in the tournament for 12U, 14U, 16U and 19U girls hockey teams and was based at The RINK .The schedule and results are found at: www.ithacagirlshockey.com.

Each team played two games in their three team division before crossing over to play a third game. The two teams with the best record at each age level played Sunday in the championship round:

posticon Lansing Girls Basketball Takes Divisional Win

basketball_girls120The Lansing Girls Basketball team improved their record to 2-0 on the season following a 46-18 Divisional win over Dryden last Friday. Jocelyn Ford led the way with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Shanna Shaff chipped in with 8 points, and Colby McCartney and Taylor Policay each added 6 points.

The Ladycats got out to a 13-2 lead after one quarter, defensively limiting the Purple Lions to 2 free throws.

bowling_120The Lansing Boys team rolled out of the gate on the tenatives side and won the first game by 50 pins, then lost the second game by 3 pins and easily won the last game taking 3 of the 4 points.  Lansing's top bowler was Trever Rounds 216-599 followed closely by Troy Hradisky 224 -592, then Tim Carlson's 568.  For the END Crusaders Joel Siedman rolled a fine 226 - 631 series followed by Kyle Halm's 544.

bowling_120The Lansing Varsity Bowling season began with a home meet against Watkins Glen yesterday.  On the boys side seniors Trever Rounds & Tim Carlsen are returning along with junior Troy Hradisky.  These will be the main core for this year's team. Junior Thomas Bong has come a long ways and will fill some holes.

Filling out the boys team is sophomore Joel Teitelbaum, who improved over the past years.

basketball_girls120The Lansing Girls Basketball team opened the 2010-11 season with a 45-18 win at Marathon on Tuesday night. Jocelyn Ford led the way with 19 points and a team high 6 rebounds, while Shanna Shaff chipped in with 9 points on 3 of 4 shooting from behind the arc.

Colby McCartney had 6 points, Carlene Fields and Maura McCartney added 3 points each, Soraya Leathers and Shea McCartney had 2 points and Kathryn Hornibrook had 1 point. Nina Lindberg contributed a team high 5 assists, while Taylor Policay had a team high 5 steals.

posticon Lansing Scores Second in Swimming Sectionals

swim120Lansing scored second in the Class C Girls Swimming Sectionals last weekend.  Chenango Forks Varsity came in first with 369.5 points followed by  Lansing (347  ), Watkins Glen (322.5), Waverly (274), Odessa-Montour (237), Greene (205), Southern Springs (133 ), and Whitney Point Varsity (111).

Lansing swimmers Erin Trowbridge, Alex Conte, Courtney Pollack and Allia Ruparelia came in third at 2:00.46 in the 200 Yard Medley Relay.  Erin Trowbridge completed the 200 Yard Freestyle in second place in 2:08.66.
