posticon JV Basketball wins IAC

ImageThe Lansing Girls JV Basketball team defeated Waverly Tuesday night 48-41 to win the IAC Large School Championship. The team completed the year with a perfect 18-0 record in the IAC, winning the North Large Division along the way. They finished the season 18-1, with their lone loss coming at Section III Whitesboro in a non-league contest. The team was guided by first year coach Andrea Huskie, and was composed of sophomores Taylor Policay, Sabrina Tilton, Soraya Leathers and Megan Drake, Freshman Brittany Mikula, Liz Gonyea, Halle Knowles, Shalyn Watson, Jada Gooch, Maddi McDonald and Mikayla Berry, 8th grader Audrey Eastman and 7th gaders Maura and Shea McCartney.

The Lansing Girls Varsity team plays Watkins Glen for the IAC Large School Championship on Friday at TC3 at 6:00, followed by the Lansing Varsity boys game against Elmira Notre Dame.

posticon Varsity Boy Swimmers Compete at Sectionals

ImageThe Lansing Varsity Boys Swim Team came in fourth in Class C at Sectionals last Saturday, scoring 262 for the day.  Watkins Glenn took first place with 481 points, followed by Chenango Forks and Waverly.  Lansing was followed by Chenango Valley, Greene, Southern Springs, and Odessa Montour in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th places respectively.

Highlights for the Lansing team included: Clement Towner, Tayor Germain, Jeremy Craig and Josh Tull coming in second in the 200 Yard Medley Relay in 1:49.30.  Clement Towner sped to first place in 1:48.74 in the 200 Yard Freestyle.  Tayor Germain came in 6th in the 200 Yard IM.

posticon Lansing Swimmers Third at IACs

ImageThe Lansing Varsity Boys Swim Team placed third in the IAC Championships last Saturday, scoring 227 points.  Watkins Glen took first place this year with 358, followed by Waverly in second place.

Clement Towner, Tayor Germain, Jeremy Craig and Josh Tull placed second in the Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:48.89.  In the second event, Lansing's Clement Towner took first place, completing the 200 Yard Freestyle in 1:51.11.  Jake Ryan also scored in the top ten, finishing fifth in 2:07.84.  Tayor Germain placed fourth in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:32.25.  In the 50 Yard Freestyle Casey Hagin finished second in 23.07.  Ben Veaner placed seventh in 25.89.

posticon Lansing Competes at Bowling IACs

ImageThe IAC Bowling Championship was held at Valley Bowl Last Saturday.  With 30 of the 32 lanes full of high school bowlers, what a day it was!

On the Girls side Waverly won the Championship and Marathon came in second followed by Watkins Glen & TAE. 20 awards were handed out with some very good bowling as Lansing's Ashley Flemming (474) received an award for the 17th postion.

posticon Lansing Girls Basketball Maintains Perfect Season

ImageThe Girls Varsity Basketball team raised their record to 16-0 following their 54-22 win at Whitney Point last Friday and their 67-15 home win over Moravia on Tuesday.  At Whitney Point Ellyn Grant-Keane led the way with 15 points, while Jocelyn Ford added 14 points.  MC Barrett chipped in with 9 points, Stephanie Gonyea had 6 points, Colby McCartney had 5 points, Shanne Shaff had 3 points and Nina Lindberg had 2 points.

The team led 20-2 after a near perfect 1st quarter, where they did not turn the ball over and had 6 assists on their 9 first quarter baskets.

posticon Elmira Challenges Lansing Bowlers

ImageElmira Notre Dame came to bowl Lansing at Helen Newman in the season final for both teams and the Lansing boys did what they have been doing for most of the season (they took points). 

In a not so high a scoring match Lansing's Trever Rounds lead the way for Lansing with a 204-539, followed by Tim Carlson's 517 as Lansing wins 4 to 0. Joel Seidman was the high scorer of all on this night as he rolled 217 - 593 for END.

ImageThe Girls Varsity Basketball team improved their record to 14-0 follow three wins in five days. The Ladycats defeated Groton at home last Friday 74-21, with Jocelyn Ford scoring 24 to lead a balanced attack. MC Barrett added 14 points while Ellyn Grant-Keane had 10 points. Stephanie Gonyea and Colby McCartney each had 8 points, Nina Lindberg had 7 and Carlene Fields added 3 points.

On Saturday the Ladycats traveled tio Section 3 Whitesboro where they won 48-47. Jocelyn Ford again led the way with 28 points, while MC Barrett added 7 points, Stephanie Gonyea had 6, and three players, Ellyn Grant-Keane, Nina Lindeberg and Colby McCartney had 2 points each.

ImageThe Girls Varsity Basketball team raised their record to 11-0 following a 54-27 win at Southern Cayuga last Friday.  Jocelyn Ford led the way with 27 points and 9 rebounds, while  MC Barrett chipped in with 17 points and 8 rebounds. 

Ellyn Grant-Keane added 6 points and team high 7 assists and 7 steals, with Stephanie Gonyea and Carlene Fields each scoring 2 points.

posticon Bobcat Bowlers Defeat Waverly

BowlingBowlingWaverly came to Helen Newman looking to clinch the IAC Large school boys title on January 21, but the Lansing Bobcats stood in their way and what a match was had!  As both teams roll the first couple of frames it becomes evident that spares will tell the story of the night and did they.

Lansing's Trever Rounds, Tim Carlson & Harrison Herzog lead the way rolling 625 betweem them to lead Lansing in taking game one 945 to 902. The battle was with every ball for the next two games as Waverly came back to take game two by 11 pins and game three by 6 pins as the teams split 2 & 2 which now puts Newark valley in first place by two points.

posticon Hall Of Fame Inducts Lansing Athletes

ImageSaturday marked the 12th annual Lansing High School Athletic Hall Of Fame induction.  Fans filled the stands to honor inductees from the 'Class of 2009' including Laura Herrick ('94), Dale "Nick" Nichols ('59), Eric Tee ('98), and the 1989 Lansing baseball team.  The awards were announced by Hall Of Famer Geoff Wright, and handed out by Hall Of Fame Committee Chairman Marty Christopher.

The Hall Of Fame was established in 1989 to honor the achievements of Lansing athletes.  The induction ceremony is traditionally sandwiched between Lansing Bobcats varsity and junior varsity basketball games in January of each year.   Nominees must have excelled in sports while at Lansing.  Former athletes and teams must have graduated a minimum of ten years before they may be nominated.  Coaches and administrators must have left the district at least two years prior to being nominated.

posticon Three Ithaca Shooting Stars Teams in Tournament

ImageAll three Ithaca Shooting Stars girls hockey teams competed last weekend in the Winter Classic XVII tournament hosted by the Adirondack Northstars in Glens Falls, NY. In addition to round robin, semi-final, and championship games at every age group, the tournament featured a skills competition.

The 19U Shooting Stars finished in second place after they were defeated in the 19U championship game by the CT Northern Lights, 0-3. They advanced to the semi-final game after going 1-1-1 in the preliminary round.  They shut out the Mohawk Valley Comets 5-0, tied the Perinton Edge 1-1, and fell to the Quakers 2-3.  The semi-final was a rematch with the Quakers but this time Ithaca won 2-0.  Goalies Sarah Eisenhut and Alison Pace shared the shutout against the Comets; Eisenhut stopped 80 shots in the five tournament games.

ImageThe Girls Varsity Basketball team improved their record to 10-0 as they defeated Dryden 57-21, on Athletic Hall of Fame night Saturday. The Ladycats were led by Jocelyn Ford's 17 point performance. Three players had 9 points, Ellyn Grant-Keane who also had a team high 8 assists, Stephanie Gonyea also had 8 rebounds and 4 assists, and MC Barrettt with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

Colby McCartney had 7 points and a team high 10 rebounds, Nina Lindberg had 4 points and a team high 6 steals, and Carlene Fields had 2 points.  The team played solid defense for the entire game, limiting Dryden to 7 field goals and single digit scoring for all four quarters. The Ladycats travel to Southern Cayuga on Friday following their bye on Tuesday.

posticon Bobcat Bowlers Challenge Candor

ImageThe Lansing Bobcats traveled to Owego Bowl Wednesday night to take on Candor in a crossover match.  The Lansing boys would have taken all 4 points with a total pin fall of 2726 as they were led by Harrison Herzog's 235-605, followed by fellow junior Tim Carlson's 203-590. Candor was led by Dylan Caveney's fine 247-691 series.

On the Girls side the two teams would have split 2 & 2 as Lansing Ashley Flemming rolled her first 500 series with a fine 193-535 and Candor's Jamie Heroux had a 170-493. Lansing travels to Valley Bowl on Thursday to take on Tioga in another crossover match and the rolls in the Big House on Saturday at Rossi in Elmira!
