This year heralds some key changes in Lansing's Athletic program. One of those changes is the new varsity football coach. Bob Brantner will be following in Ed Redmond's shoes as coach this year. With past successes under Redmond, Brantner is looking forward to the challenge of continuing that success. "It isn't often that a coach will leave a very successful program with a very successful team," he says. "I am happy to try to meet that challenge, but it will be a challenge."

Lansing's Board Of Education approved most of this year's coaching lineup at Monday's school board meeting, but a new Athletic Director was not on the roster. After a dozen years in that Role Ed Redmond closed the door on that chapter a week ago when he left Lansing to take a position at Ithaca High School. His last act as Athletic Director was to interview and recommend the hiring of the coaches for the 2008 - '09 school year.

Lansing High School will start this season with a big hole in its athletic program. With the departure of Ed Redmond after 12 years as Lansing's Athletic Director, the district is scrambling to fill his position and some coaching positions for the Fall. Principal Michelle Brantner says that his will be tough shoes to fill. "People had no idea what Ed did here," she says. "I think that's what happens when someone does their job very well."

Senior Lansing distance runner Ryann Cretney, saved the best for last. In the final race of an already outstanding high school career, the talented harrier hurdled her way to a 2nd place showing in the Division II girls 2000m Steeplechase Saturday morning at the University of Buffalo. When results were merged (all school sizes combined) she was able to sneak out a 6th place finish among all schools in NYS, earning her her first NYS Ferderation medal, a feat not easy to do coming from a small school.
