hangar_thewizComplementing the 2013 Mainstage season, the Hangar Theatre presents a magical series of live theatre for young audiences based on favorite children's stories. The KIDDSTUFF season will conclude with performances of The Wiz, a 'super soul' musical version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz playing from August 15-17 at 10am and 12pm.

Adapted for young audiences, this 'super soul,' musical version of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz invites audiences to 'Ease on Down the Road' with Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion. In the Land of Oz, where magic and adventure are hidden around every turn, Dorothy tries to find her way home and discovers a power inside herself that she never knew she had. This celebrated musical, which won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Score, will feature students from the Hangar's Next Generation School of Theatre.

William F. Brown (Book) was nominated for the 1975 Tony Award for his work on The Wiz. His other works include The Girl in the Freudian Slip, How to Steal an Election, A Single Thing in Common, and A Broadway Musical. Other plays include Damon's Song, Twist, and The Nutley Papers. His television work includes episodes of That Was The Week That Was, Love American Style, As the World Turns, and Jackie Gleason's American Scene Magazine.

Charlie Smalls (Music and Lyrics) won the Tony Awards for Best Original Score in 1975 for his work on The Wiz, his only Broadway credit. Smalls studied music at the Henry Street Settlement and the Juilliard School. His film credits included the song "Never Felt Like This Before" for the John Cassavetes's film Faces and the score for Drum. He was a pianist with the New York Jazz Repertory Company and toured with Harry Belafonte and Hugh Masekela.

Cody Smith (Director) is the Associate Director of Artistic Programming at the Hangar and a freelance director/choreographer who lives in New York City. He most recently directed and collaborated on Smile Swamp Princess: A Rock Opera. Choreographic credits include Acres of Clams (Ars Nova ANT Fest), Time of Your Life (Attic Theater), The Most Happy Fella and Little Women (Oklahoma City University). He has choreographed multiple KIDDStuff productions at the Hangar including Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, Click Clack Moo: Cows that Type, How I Became a Pirate, If You Give a Pig a Pancake and Seussical: The Musical. He received his BM from Oklahoma City University in Musical Theatre and is a proud alum of the Hangar Theatre's Lab Company.
