Lansing's Recreation Department's Spring Yoga course begins next Monday (04/03).  Andrea Smith will be teaching two different types of yoga.  At 5:30pm she will be teaching Kripalu Yoga, that emphasizes a gentle and compassionate self-observation while performing basic hatha yoga postures.  Kripalu focusses on what is right with people, not what is wrong with them.

At 7:00 p,m she will be teaching Svaroopa Yoga which uses poses to release spinal tension and create inner harmony.  This form of yoga is used to help people with chronic back pain.  It is easy to learn and considered to be good for overall health.  The idea is that body tension begins around the base of the spine, so releasing the tension in those muscles has beneficial results that radiate throughout the body.

The sessions are open to people with all levels of experience.  Smith plans to adjust the level of instruction to the experience of the participants.  Smith has over 18 years of experience practicing and teaching yoga.  Her classes are known for their glentle and flowing style.  She is a registered Kripalu teacher.  While the usual price for the program is $115, participants through the Rec Department will pay $75.  Sessions take place at the Town Hall.
