College Mentors for Kids at Cornell University has been awarded the 2014-2015 Chapter of the Year for schools serving 99 children or less from the national office of College Mentors for Kids located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

"When I heard that we were selected as Chapter of the Year, I felt overwhelmingly proud. Our phenomenal staff and dedicated mentors have spent the past two years working very hard to get us to where we are today. They have put so much energy into ensuring that we are fulfilling our mission and serving our 80 little buddies to the best of our ability. I am honored to have had the opportunity to lead the chapter of the year, and I am confident that the Cornell chapter will continue to be successful in the coming years," said Sarah Greenberg, co-president of the Cornell University chapter.

The chapter was selected because of their intentional and purposeful decisions in all aspects of the program-from the selection of staff, to the recruitment and pairing of mentors, high-quality activities, and how they cultivate awareness about the program on campus and in the Ithaca community. The chapter takes the mission of College Mentors very seriously and makes a consistent effort to provide the little buddies with the absolute best experience possible. Cornell also stood out as they have only been in existence for two years, yet they operate like a much more experienced chapter. The national office was also impressed with not only their emphasis on mentoring relationships between the mentors and little buddies but mentor bonding between the college student volunteers through monthly socials.

"I know I've said this before, and it still holds true, but an outsider would have no idea that your chapter is only in its second year of programming. I was once again immensely impressed by your mentors, GMs (group leaders), and E-board  (executive board of the chapter), as well as the quality of the mentoring relationships," Laura McGaughey, Associate Director for Programming, College Mentors for Kids.

The Cornell University chapter was founded through support from the Sigma Pi Educational Foundation and serves 80, 1st-4th graders from Caroline Elementary School.
