End-of-Year Ceremony Shows Girl Scouts' Achievements

ImageFor the many girls involved in Girl Scouting in Lansing June 7 was a day for celebration.  A ceremony was held at Myers Park to honor these girls' accomplishments this past year.

Girl Scouts use badges and patches to show and celebrate their achievements.  Each girl was presented with the badges and patches she had earned this year, which will adorn the vest she wears to events and meetings with her troop.

Some of the girls also earned special awards, requiring extra work with her troop and on her own to earn.  These awards can consist of community service, research, spreading awareness, leadership opportunities, and learning or improving skills, such as horseback riding and public speaking.

The last, and possibly most important segment of the ceremony was the bridging of girls from one level of Girl Scouting, to a higher level.  This year, many girls crossed the bridge from Brownies to Juniors, where they will be able to do badges and awards as individuals.  An older scout greeted each of these girls after she crossed the bridge, and presented them with a small badge shaped like wings, to show that they had
