ihspac 120The Fine Arts Booster Group (FABG), an affiliate of IPEI, has awarded $8,170 in grants to 16 Ithaca City School District (ICSD) projects that will reach 2,224 students. Funded projects include support for Saltonstall Teacher Residency; Ithaca High Band's 100th Anniversary Commission and Concert; DeWitt's Jazz Appreciation Concert and Orchestra NYS Baroque Concert; Ithaca High's Visual Arts Memory Project, Ithaca High Choir's sight singing; Beverly J. Martin Elementary's "Meet Me Where I Am" with dancer Lisa Tsetse; Fall Creek Elementary's Songwriters' Workshop; Belle Sherman Elementary's Step Up and Speak Out Concert; and Cayuga Heights Elementary's Mosaic Mural Project. In addition, all secondary schools received drama program support, including DeWitt Middle, Boynton Middle, Lehman Alternative Community, and Ithaca High.

Booster Grants Chairperson Mary Ann Erickson states, "It's inspiring to help support the wonderful work that teachers and students create in the arts." Co-President Alice Wu adds, "FABG is very glad to support the ICSD teachers in their varied and creative projects, which will help enhance students' knowledge and appreciation of the arts."

Grant funds are made possible through Fine Arts Booster Group performance booklet ad sales and donations. The boosters produce performance booklet programs for middle and high school concerts and plays, totaling over thirty events each year.

The next mini-grant deadline is February 1, 2017.
