United Way of Tompkins County (UWTC) announced their 2018-19 Campaign Committee and fundraising goal at an event this Thursday evening. This year's United Way campaign will be led by Co-Chairs Reverend Tim Dean, Reverend Nathaniel Wright and Pastor Ron Benson.

Dean is Chaplain at Cayuga Medical Center, a historic partner of United Way of Tompkins County. Wright is the pastor at Calvary Baptist Church and Benson is pastor at Baptized Church of Jesus Christ. These faith leaders will be joined by Honorary Co-Chairs and radio personalities Dave Ashton and Jenn Mattison from Lite 97.3. "This dynamic campaign team represents the values and history of United Way focusing on inclusivity, diversity, and community engagement," shared UWTC Chair of the Board Lynnette Scofield.

The campaign committee announced this year's Community Campaign goal of $1,850,000. To date, 30% of that goal has been reached. Additionally, to celebrate the campaign kick-off and encourage giving, a matching grant of up to $40,000 has been offered by an anonymous Tompkins Charitable Gift Fund donor. "We are grateful for the momentum this challenge offers us, in which all new donors will see their giving matched and all existing donors will see any increase over last year matched, up to the $40,000, through December 20th," UWTC President and CEO James Brown stated.

The new co-chairs presented a united theme of "we're all in this together," and stressing the importance of meeting our communities' needs in the areas of financial security, health and education. Pastor Benson elaborated their mission of coming together as a team to fundraise for United Way. "The religious and broader community has to reevaluate our views on giving to meet crucial needs. It's important that we give to an organization with integrity; United Way gives with a broad focus on inclusivity," he explained.

100% of all donations go directly to local programs and services.
