Whenever there is an opportunity to raise funds for the community the Lansing Lions are there.  Members of the philanthropic club were on the town Highway Department grounds at the crack of dawn, setting up their tent to sell food and drinks to people attending the municipal auction last Saturday (9/10).

The Lions are made up of people from many backgrounds in Lansing who want to give to the community.  Town Supervisor Steve Farkas was flipping burgers, Superintendent of Highways Jack French and Lions President Lin Davidson were setting up, former School Superintendent Ray Buckley was taking orders while Lansing Funeral Home owner Kirk Shreve and many other members manned the food counter, barbecues and the cash box.

The auction is only one of the events where the Lions raise money.  Their 4th of July chicken barbecue is legend, and they conduct two pancake breakfasts each year, one in April and the other in October.  Funding goes to an impressive list of recipients, as well as to permanent projects that enhance the community.  Currently they are raising money to erect a band stand in Myers Park.  Click here to see a list of projects and fund raising activities.

Attendees lined up as the day went on.  Donuts and coffee went in the morning, while burgers, sausages with and without onions and peppers and hot dogs were popular at lunch time.  Mr. Davidson even delivered burgers to auction workers in the office trailer.

Money from this event went into the general fund to help pay for the many projects the Lions contribute to.  Additionally they raised money for Hurricane Katrina relief.
