igc_awd120The Ithaca Garden Club's annual Downtown Beautification Award was recently presented to Marjorie Hoffman who maintains the Temple Beth El garden at the northwest corner of Court and Tioga Streets.

Hoffman had the previous landscaping at temple removed and she helped Elegant Estates design the garden in memory of her mother, Bebe Hoffman in 2008. She is currently responsible for maintaining the garden; her nurturing and tender care is evident in the way the garden has flourished.

According to Garden Club awards committee member Jane Richards, "Part of the design reflects  personal favorites of both Majorie and her mother. Lilacs, forsythia, burning bushes, day lilies and spring bulbs are all part of this extensive downtown garden. Her addition of benches contributes in a way many other residential gardens cannot.  People are invited to rest, to think, to enjoy the garden at their leisure – a respite in the middle of downtown that is clearly visible to passersby whether they are driving or strolling in the neighborhood."
