There was an 85.04% Increase in the Number of Unemployment Claims in New York (May 2020 vs January 2020). 82,981 claims were filed the week of May 25, 2020 vs 44,846 the week of January 1, 2020. That ranked New York the 8th lowest increase in the US.

Since Pandemic Started there have been 1,569.69% Increase in Unemployment Claims in the state. There were 2,500,902 between the week of March 16, 2020 and the week of May 25, 2020 vs 159,325 between the week of March 18, 2019 and the week of May 27, 2019. That puts New York at the17th lowest increase in the US since the beginning of the pandemic.
