hangar1The Hangar Theatre announced its 2019 summer season last week. The season will offer five shows from June 13 through the end of August.

Or, What She Will by Liz Duffy Adams
June 13-22
The Hangar season opens with a rollicking farce, Or, What She Will. The comedy is based on the actual life of Aphra Behn, considered the first professional female playwright. Playwright, lover, or…spy? Desperate to escape a life in 17th century espionage, up-and-coming playwright Aphra Behn just landed her first chance with a professional company—if she can deliver her play by dawn. But in a world of romance and spies, can Aphra save the life of King Charles II and launch her budding writing career all in one night? With Nell Gwynne interrupting? With echoes of Restoration comedy, it’s a mad, literate romp of formidable wit by American playwright Liz Duffy Adams.

Into The Woods by Stephanie Sondheim
June 28-July 13
Then audiences will venture Into the Woods with the Tony Award-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. This modern twist on classic fairy tales begins when a witch’s curse sends a baker and his wife on a quest that crosses paths with characters you know and love, like Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack, Little Red Riding Hood, and other favorites. What will they discover when they venture away from home and civilization, in the woods? It’s a soaring musical about the power of wishes—and what really happens when they come true.

Kinky Boots by Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper
July 19-August 3
The music continues with the regional premiere of Kinky Boots, the big-hearted Broadway hit featuring songs by Grammy- and Tony-winning pop legend Cyndi Lauper. Inspired by true events, it celebrates friendship and the importance of taking chances, from a shoe factory in Northampton to the catwalks of Milan. As Charlie Price struggles to save his family’s failing business and meet his father’s expectations, help arrives in the form of Lola, a performer in need of some eye-catching new stilettos. With a book by Broadway legend and four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage Aux Folles), Kinky Boots is the winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Choreography.

Little Women adapted by Kate Hamill
