Mythology and allegory in Brian Keeler's work represent a continuation of timeless themes that artists from antiquity to the present have been exploring and reinventing.
Keeler's newest exhibition, on display at Northstar Art Gallery through November 29th, "Magical Mythologies" presents more than fifty of his works on this theme.
Whether on ancient Greek vases or upon the canvases of Apelles of Kos or the depictions of Mars and Vulcan by Velazquez in the Baroque era, these myths have proven to be a deep resource for artistic expression. Over his career Brian Keeler has taken inspiration from Bernini, Carpeaux, Caravaggio and others and from the literary sources to make personal and contemporary interpretations of Greco-Roman Myth.
