robertson13_120Congressional Candidate Martha Robertson made her candidacy official for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives for New York’s 23rd District Tuesday, by filing more than 5,500 Democratic nominating petitions from all 11 counties represented in 23rd Congressional District.

Robertson’s campaign filed Democratic petitions from all 11 counties in the district, with over 125 of the individual towns and cities represented. To qualify for the ballot for the Democratic nomination, candidates must collect 1,250 signatures total. Robertson collected almost five times the required amount, highlighting the grassroots and expansive strength of her campaign. The petition process is one of the first opportunities to showcase the organizational strength of a particular campaign early in the election season.

“I am humbled and grateful for the support of so many of my fellow New Yorkers.  The grassroots strength our campaign has displayed, coming in from all 11 counties across New York’s 23rd District, is a true testament to the momentum of our campaign for Congress and also the desire of the people of the 23rd District to reject the policies and unethical practices of the current representative, Congressman Tom Reed,” Robertson said. “New Yorkers are giving us a clear message that they want a representative who works for all of us.”

Robertson raised more than $325,000 in the first quarter of 2014, bringing her total to more than one million dollars so far this cycle. She will report having over $810,000 cash-on-hand as she continues to build strength in her race against incumbent Reed.

Robertson’s campaign says it will file a report showing she has raised more than $1,050,000 for the cycle and has more than $810,000 cash-on-hand. More than 4,500 citizens have given to Robertson’s campaign, with over 70% of the funds coming from New York State. To date, just over 91% of the donors to the campaign have given less than $250, highlighting the broad support and grassroots strength of this people-powered campaign. Robertson’s fundraising continues to be in the top tier in the nation for challenger campaigns.

“I am extremely proud of the 4,500-plus citizens who have stepped up and joined our mission to bring economic opportunity and common sense solutions to Washington," Robertson said.  "The fact that we've raised a million dollars with 91% of the donors giving less than $250 this quarter shows that we are building an exciting grassroots movement that voters of the 23rd District support."

Q1 reports are due to be filed with the Federal Election Commission by April 15th, 2014.
