The meeting began a bit unusually with District Clerk Jodie Rusaw calling Monday's Board Of Education (BOE) meeting to order.  That's because there was no board president to do so until newly elected members were sworn in and officers elected.  The first order of business was to swear in Anne Drake and Sandi Dhimitri, who were both reelected in an uncontested election in May.  Rusaw asked each, "Do you solemnly swear that you will support the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of the State of New York, and that you will faithfully discharge the duties of the position of member of the Board of Education of the Lansing Central School District according to the best of your abilities?"  Both agreed to do so.

Next Rusaw asked for nominations for School Board President.  Christine Iacobucci nominated Anne Drake, who had been Vice President in the last school year.  Dan Brown nominated Bonita Lindberg, who served in that capacity last year.  Tom Keane suggested the candidates be given the opportunity to make statements, but both declined.  Lindberg won in a 5 to 1 vote, with Drake not voting.

After Rusaw turned the meeting over to Lindberg, Brown nominated Drake for Vice President.  With no further nominations, Drake won the post 7 to 0.  That vote meant that there is no change in the School Board from last year, with all the same members and officers in place.

A change that will take place is the time of School Board meetings.  Iacobucci asked that meetings be moved to Thursdays to accommodate her work schedule for the coming year.  Many were unhappy with the change for a variety of reasons.  Tom Keane said that with all the school and other events during the week it would be more difficult for parents to make a Thursday meeting than one on Mondays.  He noted that the Board has been criticized for not communicating with the public and this would not help improve that situation.  But faced with Thursday or Friday as the only evenings Iacobucci is available, board members agreed to change to the second and fourth Thursdays of each month starting on August 24th.
