Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton (D-125AD, Tompkins/Cortland) announced that Governor Cuomo has signed into law her bill (A382) that directs the New York State Office of Information Technology Services to study and submit a report on current practices and recommended ways to ensure the authenticity of electronic legal materials, such as the State Constitution; court opinions; the laws of the state; any state agency rule, regulation or decision that has or had the effect of law; material published in the New York register; and the New York code of rules and regulations.

"As our society continues to shift away from print materials towards the use of online resources, it is more important than ever that we ensure the trustworthiness of electronic information," said Assemblywoman Lifton. "This new law will direct the New York State Office of Information Technology Services to conduct a study on the use of important state legal material in electronic formats. This study will be then be used to produce legislation, and, I hope, law that will ensure the continued public access of these materials, as well as guarantee that the information the public is receiving is accurate and verifiable."
