It's the task of all elected officials to live up to the high standards demanded of us to combat those impressions. Two of the New York State's most senior Democrats, the Comptroller and now the Governor, have been forced to resign in disgrace. The opportunity exists for Republicans to demonstrate that we can provide leadership of competence and integrity. If it wasn't for the pattern of wrongdoing, with the following of the State Senate Majority leader with State Police and of his support for issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, I'd believe this was an isolated incident. Six years and $80,000 later, bargaining with your office for legal favor, along with those other issues, it clearly is not isolated.
