Triphammer Road has been undergoing a major renovation throughout the summer, and there is a lot more to be done. With Winter getting closer, "What you see is what you get," says resident engineer Byron Hall of Fisher Associates. "We're about 35% done with the project according to the monies that have been paid to the contractor so far."

It looks like the construction will be completed at the end of next summer. Work was held up for a while because the utility companies did not do their work when scheduled. Other work depended on the utilities being moved. But the project would have finished nest year anyway. "We had a late start to begin with," says Mr. Hall.

Next year there will be 7 lanes in front of the mall

"We hope to finish the water main, which is almost done. The main trunk lines are in, and we're doing tie-ins to the side roads and services," says Mr. Hall. We have more storm drainage to do between Pyramid and Oak Crest. Then we're going to get the two side roads, Craft and Brook, are going to be tied in this year. We're going to try to get the sidewalk in, at least where we have driveways."
Fisher Associates and Suit-Coat are the primary companies involved in the project. They are the equivalent of an architect and a builder when you build a house: Fisher Associates does the design and engineering, and Suit-Coat is the primary contractor on the job.

The area North of Graham Road and the ramps onto Route 13 will be paved with the binder coat before construction ceases for the Winter. The center section will be completed next Spring and Summer, then the whole thing will paved with the top coat. When it is there will be seven lanes in front of the mall. Going North there will be two left turn lanes to get into the mall at Pyramid Drive, a through lane and the existing right turn lane that goes into the Cayuga Mall will be lengthened.

The Route 13 ramps have been made wider, and much of Triphammer has been as well. Bicycle paths will be marked on the right and left hand sides, and sidewalks will be added. Some of the curbing toward the North of the project has been cut for budgetary reasons, but that will not affect construction of the new sidewalks. South of Route 13 the road will be pretty much as it has been.

Aside from the delay the utility companies caused the project is going well. "We're very happy with Suit-Coat and all their sub-contractors, says Village Clerk/Treasurer Jodi Dake. She also reports that there have been few complaints about the slowed traffic. "And when there is a complaint they are right on it and they take great care of it," she says.

They plan to work through the end of November, or possibly later, weather permitting. They'll resume the project on March 1 and the contractor hopes to complete the project in August of 2006, not counting the tree planing. This means one more summer of road construction, but the end result, everyone agrees, will be worth it.
