arcuri120Michael ArcuriUtica, NY—On Friday the New York State Supreme Court for Albany County upheld a successful grassroots effort to create an independent ballot line, the Moderates line, despite a desperate challenge from Richard Hanna.

“From the start, the purpose of the Moderates line was to give independent-minded voters an alternative to the scandal-ridden local Independence Party,” said Congressman Arcuri, “Our volunteers worked hard to make sure that voters would have that choice on November 2nd, and the court’s decision ensures that they will.”

This summer, nearly 200 volunteers of every political persuasion came together to help the Arcuri campaign file almost 7,300 signatures, more than double the number required for an independent ballot line in New York State. Hanna supporters issued baseless challenges to the grassroots effort almost immediately. Even after the Board of Elections verified almost all of the signatures gathered, Hanna attempted to circumvent the Board by taking his frivolous claims to court.

Congressman Arcuri also received 4,332 signatures to qualify for the Democratic ballot line this year, more than three times the number required, and exceeding his own 2008 record.
