In recognition of his efforts to protect every New Yorker's Constitutional Right to Bear Arms, State Senator Mike Nozzolio will receive the  “Sandra Lee Wirth Legislator of the Year” award from the Statewide sportsmen’s’ organization SCOPE NY. Nozzolio will be honored at SCOPE’s 46th annual awards banquet, to be held on October 7th in Buffalo.

“Responsible gun ownership and hunting are a long and important tradition in our State, with generations of family members passing down the values of safety, sportsmanship and an interest in outdoor recreation,” said Nozzolio. “I am a firm believer that our Constitutionally-protected Right to Bear Arms is sacred, and I am greatly honored to receive this recognition from SCOPE for my efforts to oppose any measure that would violate or infringe upon the rights of law-abiding gun owners in New York State.”

Nozzolio has long been a strong advocate for Second Amendment rights in New York and has worked to represent the interests of sportsmen across the State. In the past, he was named “Legislator of the Year” by the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association and received the highest legislative rating from the National Rifle Association, of which he is a lifetime member. Nozzolio’s opposition was instrumental in defeating costly and intrusive legislation that would require every pistol manufactured or sold New York to be capable of microstamping ammunition, an ineffective technology that would have wasted more of our taxpayers’ dollars.

Continuing his efforts to ensure that law abiding gun owners’ rights remain intact, Nozzolio is also sponsoring legislation (S.1427) that would amend the New York State Constitution to forever protect Second Amendment rights in the State. He is also sponsoring legislation to discontinue the use of the New York Combined Ballistic Identification System (CoBIS), a complicated, expensive and ineffective tracking system that has failed to solve a single gun crime since it was implemented 10 years ago. Recently, the New York State Senate adopted Nozzolio’s legislation, which would save taxpayers $4 million per year by eliminating CoBIS.

“My colleagues in the State Senate and I have achieved much success in blocking further infringements on the rights of our responsible gun owners that are pushed every year by legislators from New York City. Sportsmen across New York State can count on me to continue fighting in Albany to protect the rights that were granted to us by the founders of our great Nation,” concluded Nozzolio.
