HOMER, NY - Our beloved mother, Isabelle McCraine passed away peacefully to be with our Lord as she was surrounded by family at home on Saturday, August 5. Born in Gourock, Scotland, July 4, 1921, she emigrated with her family to the states in 1928 as her Dad, a naval architect and an emissary at the United States Embassy was relocated. She grew up in Staten Island, went to school for broadcast journalism. During World War II, Belle worked as a nurses aide for the American Red Cross. Later on, she took a job with WMEL Radio in Washington, DC.

Isabelle married Peter Young and settled in Copaigue, Long Island to raise a family. Isabelle then moved up to Cortland in 1963 and began working for SUNY Cortland in the Admissions Office, where she remained for twenty years until her retirement in 1983. After retirement from the college, she remained active with her children, volunteering for the Red Cross, and working part-time at several jobs, including Park Communications and Treeforms. In 1985, Isabelle made it back to her beloved Scotland for a visit with family members.

Belle is survived by her three daughters, Peggy Darby (Jim Savino) of Virgil, Nanci Ludwig (Charlie Wood) of Freeville, and Moira McMahon (Kevin McMahon) of Homer; her sister, Moira Roberts (Albert); and her sister-in-law, Barbara McCraine. Also her grandchildren, Scott and James Darby, Jennifer Ludwig, Viki Wright, Kira and Sondra McMahon; nieces and nephews, and several great-grandchildren.

Isabelle was predeceased by her son, Peter Paul Young in 1973; and her brother, Thomas McCraine in 1998.

She was loved by many and will be missed dearly as she had touched the lives of many wonderful people from all walks of life. Isabelle, over the years, made contacts and close friends from many different countries throughout her time here on Earth. A very dear and lifelong friend, Rita Franklin predeceased her; and also very dear to her were Boku Hendrickson of Michigan, and Gabriella Toloi of Brazil.

Anyone wishing to share our final farewell to her and join us in a celebration of her life are invited to come to the Lansing Funeral Home for calling hours Tuesday from 12-2 p.m., August 8. Funeral will follow immediately in Homer at the Glenwood Cemetery, with a gathering at her home afterward.
