Florence Miller, age 81, lifetime resident of NYC and, during the long gardening season, a resident of Mount Road in Trumansburg, passed away peacefully at her NYC home on May 25, 2008 following an extended illness. Florence was born on October 12, 1926 in Brooklyn, a daughter of the late Samuel and Bertha Rudetsky. She had been an Elementary Teacher and Guidance Counselor in the NYC Public School System.

She was independent, stubborn, strong witted, a voracious reader, a published writer, a patron of the opera, and an involved member of her community. She loved NYC (except for the pigeons) and equally loved the quietness of her country home; additionally, she truly loved her daughters.

Florence is survived by her daughters, Louise (Laura Robert) Miller of Ithaca and Rebecca Miller of NYC; and a brother, Edwin (Gloria) Rudetsky of California.

A graveside ceremony and prayers of committal will be offered by Abbe Lyons of the Ithaca Reformed Temple at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2008, at Lake View Cemetery in Ithaca. In lieu of flowers, kindly direct memorials in Florence's name to Amnesty International, 5 Penn Plaza, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001. Arrangements are under the direction of Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Road, Lansing, NY.
