ImageI am writing this to Mr. Hugh Bahar in response to his editorial last week in the Lansing Star.

Dear Mr. Bahar:

If you really want to be informed of the true facts, why not attend the sewer meetings? They are open to the public and always have been. The next three are scheduled for March 28, April 11 and April 25 at 5 PM. Then when you write editorials to the Lansing Star and Ithaca Journal you might at least have some of the facts right. I am not a member of the sewer committee, but am concerned with affordable housing in Lansing and chair our Affordable Housing Committee, so I chose to attend the meetings.

Also, as far as the new structure of the Planning Department and Highway Department, they are structures only, we have not hired any new employees at taxpayer’s expense nor do we plan to do so. Darby Kiley was already a part time employee of the town and as the Federal Government now has all of these storm water requirements for municipalities we felt it would be of a benefit to the town to have a Storm Water Specialist on board to make sure we are meeting all the requirements. The Board felt putting her in charge of our planning department would then free up our Code Enforcement Officer and Building Inspector to do their jobs rather than deal with planning issues. We believe we are being proactive planning for the future of Lansing, since we truly do care about our community and environment.

Another fact for you: Town Board Meetings are the third Wednesdays of the month, and are always open to the public so I would invite you to attend them as well. If you are unable to attend the minutes of the meeting are available on the town web site www.lansingtown.com then go to Agendas/Minutes as well as at the Town Clerk’s office. Contrary to your belief, we do not hold closed door meetings and I am highly offended by your accusation that we do. This Town Board is probably one of the most open town boards there has ever been and any one of us may be approached at any time by our constituents.

I hope to see you at our Town Board meetings and at the Sewer meetings, unless you want to just keep guessing and speculating what is going on and continue passing along wrong information.
