swim120The Lansing Ladycats Swimming and Diving Team continued their undefeated streak this past Saturday in Watkins Glen by winning the IAC Swimming and Diving Championships in very convincing fashion. The Ladycat swimmers won 10 of 11 swimming events and combined as a team for 488 points, over 100 more then the next closest team.

The day started with a win worth 40 points in the 200 Medley Relay by the team of Senior Isabelle Corgel (Backstroke), Junior Adele Ferris (Breaststroke), Senior Anna Conte (Butterfly) and Junior Aurora Allen (Freestyle) with a time of 1:57.00.

The next event was the 200 Freestyle and was a race among Ladycats with Caroline Dennis (8th) winning with a time of 2:04.17 just out touching teammate Katie Weaver (Fr). Other scorers for the Ladycats were Lizzy Drake (So) finishing 6th and Carlyn Matheny finishing 14th. Team points earned 53.

Adele Ferris won the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:14.43, followed by Corgel in 3rd, Chelsea Boles (Sr) 8th and Krista Taylor (Fr) in 15th. Team points earned 49.

The 50 Freestyle was won by Anna Conte in time 25.89, just out touching Erin Daley of Dryden by a 0.19 margin. Team mates Allen in 5th, Megan Matheny (8th) in 14th and Alyssa Sanito (Jr) in 15th. Team points earned 39.

Conte lead the Ladycat swimmers in the 100 Butterfly with a 2nd place finish in a time of 1:03.97. She was followed by teammates Grace Ferris (Fr) 4th, Chelsea Boles 8th and Shamali Frankel (Fr) in 18th. Team Points earned 42.

Katie Weaver fended off Maia Rumsey from Odessa to take 1st place honors in the 100 Freestyle with a personal best time of 56.90. Teammates Paige Kieper (So) finished 7th, Tori Swanson (So) 13th and Allysa Sanito 19th. Team points earned 36 points.

500 Freestyle was once again won comfortably by Adele Ferris in a time of 5:18.60. Her teammates did well also, with Dennis finishing 2nd, Drake finishing 6th and Jacqueline Brown (8th) finishing in 7th, all helping to add 62 points to the team score.

The next event was the 200 Freestyle Relay and it was won by the team of Conte, Weaver, Dennis and A. Ferris along with 40 more points to the mounting winning score.

Individual events picked up again with the 100 Backstroke, where Isabelle Corgel excited the team with a very strong winning time of 1:00.86. Fellow Ladycat swimmers Allen, Kieper and Swanson finished 3rd, 7th and 12th respectively. All together adding 53 points.

Freshman Grace Ferris went head to head with Junior Victoria Wixson of the Glen Gators in the 100 Breaststroke. The 2 swimmers battled even the entire race, but Ferris poured it on the last 25 yards to pull ahead with a personal best winning time of 1:13.32.  Jacqueline Brown finished 8th, Carlyn Matheny 12th and Krista Taylor 16th. All together they added 37 more points to the team score.

The final event was the 400 Freestyle Relay. The Ladycat team of Caroline Dennis, Aurora Allen, Grace Ferris and anchor Katie Weaver added the icing on the championship cake for Head Coach Diane Hicks-Hughes, with a 3:57.13 1st place finish.

Anna Conte, Isabelle Corgel, Adele Ferris, Aurora Allen, Grace Ferris, Katie Weaver and Caroline Dennis were all name to the IAC All-Star Team. Adele Ferris was awarded the Most Valuable Competitor by the coaches.
