This year's vintage weekend features a date change to mid-summer, due to the track repaving project that is scheduled to begin in earnest following the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Cheez-It™ 355, August 6-9.
The annual visit of the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) celebrates the long history of motorsports at Watkins Glen International. Historic cars from a number of different time periods and series will again tackle the twists and turns of The Glen this July.
"We are thrilled to have such great partners in Glenora and Welliver returning for this year's Vintage Grand Prix weekend," said WGI President Michael Printup. "We expect this to be a great and exciting weekend for everyone involved."
Glenora Wine Cellars, located on the west side of Seneca Lake, 10 miles North of Watkins Glen, has been producing award-winning high quality wines for over 37 years. In 1977, Glenora Wine Cellars was the first winery to open on Seneca Lake, in the heart of New York's Finger Lakes Wine Country. Today, the property offers a 30-room inn (Inn at Glenora) and a gourmet restaurant (Veraisons).
"We are proud to, once again, be a part of this event," said Gene Pierce, Co-Owner of Glenora Wine Cellars. "Both racing and winemaking have a long history in the Finger Lakes and Watkins Glen. We truly appreciate the opportunity to continue this relationship with Watkins Glen International and the racing community."
Welliver, headquartered just outside of Watkins Glen, is one of the largest family-owned commercial construction firms in Upstate New York. Founded in 1898, Welliver has provided quality commercial building solutions, from pre-construction to final project delivery, for clients in healthcare, higher education, K-12, and manufacturing for 117 years.
"We are excited to renew our partnership with WGI again this year and are proud to support the history of road racing in Watkins Glen through the US Vintage Grand Prix Weekend. Regardless of this year's date change, I am confident that it will be a great weekend and look forward to watching the diverse groups of vintage cars take to the track," states Welliver Chairman & CEO, Scott Welliver.
