football UV 201810

With this being the first year of the 8-man football schedule for Lansing, gone are most short trips to local rivals of say Groton and Dryden. A new opponent 1.5 hours east in Unadilla Valley hosted the Bobcats. One of the Lansing communities biggest fans and popular bus drivers Gary Christopher fulfilled the team travel duties for the Friday night showdown. The crisp night in the Valley found cool conditions, a low lying fog directly over the field for much of the game, and a country concession stand filled with comfort foods of ziti, mac-n-cheese, and pulled pork to name a few. A third win of the season would make it certainly 'all good in the valley'.

Lansing tailback Luke Winslow (6 x 58, 2TD) scored on a 16 yard run in the first and a successful PAT made it 7-0. Wideout Ben Vincent took a slant pass from QB Garrett Bell for a 45 yard score a couple minutes later. Bell capped the first quarter scoring with a 4 yard keeper and a 19-0 lead after one.

Running back Darryl Fleming led all rushers for the game with a 9 x 123 yards and one touchdown. Fleming and Bell shared kicking duties for this evening. With Lansing carrying a 40-0 lead to start the second half it was agreed upon by the coaches to allow a running clock for the remainder of the game. Much of the second half had Vincent at QB, Devon Wright (5 x 73) and Brad Lehr (4 x 12) at running backs. It has been good to see that a first week knee injury hasn not slowed lineman Nate Sill from action all season. Winslow (12) and linebacker Griffen Nelson (17) led the defense with double digits tackles including 9 solos each. Final score tally was 46-6. UV roster was predominantly sophomores and juniors and this matchup could be a lot more interesting in a year.

Homecoming game this Friday 10/5 against Oxford at 7pm. Lansing is currently undefeated at 3-0. Oxford is 2-1.
