ImageWatkins Glen hosted the IAC Swimming and Diving Championship meet Saturday, but the home team took second place to an unstoppable Lansing varsity team.  Lansing scored few first places in the meet, but the team's cumulative score told the story of solid swimming and team effort.  By the last event Lansing scored in first place with 294 points, followed by Watkins Glen (236), Dryden (228), Southern Springs (169), Waverly (149), and Odessa Montour (94).

Watkins started out strong, taking first place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, with the Lansing team of Lexi Payton, Katrina Mehringer, Courtney Pollack and Anna Mapes in fourth place only 8 1/2 seconds later.  But Lansing took first place in the Women 200 Yard Freestyle as Kali Dean sped to the finish in 2:00.35.

Watkins again took first and second place in the Women 200 Yard IM with Lansing's Lexi Payton in third, Alex Conte in fifth, Chelsea Tucker taking eigth, and Kate Adie eleventh out of fourteen swimmers.  Lansing's Andrea Payton took third place in the 200 Yard IM, and Lansing took third again in the 50 Yard Freestyle as Ashley McDonald finished a second and a half later.  Anna Mapes, Danyelle Barron, and Sarah Tull also scored for the Cats.

Two Lansing girls scored in the 100 Yard Butterfly with Courtney Pollack coming in second after Watkins Glen, and Chelsea Tucker in fifth.  Lansing's Chelsie Radcliffe took fifth in the sixth event, the 100 Yard Butterfly, with Ally Livermore also scoring.  In the 100 Yard Freestyle Kali Dean sped to second place, only 14 seconds behind the Watkins Glen first place winner.  Katrina Mehringer, Anna Mapes, and Kelsy Quigley also scored for Lansing.  Ashley McDonald came in second in the 500 Yard Freestyle with Lansing swimmers Valerie Massi, Chelsie Radcliffe, and Nicole Nassif also scoring.

Lansing took another second in the 500 Yard Freestyle as  Ashley McDonald finished in 5:59.29.  Also scoring for Lansing was  Valerie Massi,  Chelsie Radcliffe, and  Nicole Nassif.  It was another second place for Lansing in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay as Alex Conte, Anna Mapes, Ashley McDonald and Kali Dean came in behind Watkins Glen.  Lexi Payton finished the 100 Yard Backstroke behind two Watkins Glen swimmers, with Kelsy Quigley and Kate Adie also scoring.

But Lansing finished first in the 100 Yard Backstroke as Courtney Pollack made the finish only a fraction of a second before her Waverly opponent.  In the 100 Yard Breaststroke  Alex Conte finished fifth, with Katrina Mehringer also scoring.  Andrea Payton took fourth place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, with Shaye Weldon also scoring.

Lansing finished the meet on a high note, taking first place in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, with Ashley McDonald, Courtney Pollack, Alex Conte and Kali Dean finishing in 4:03.30.
