ImageAdding to it's first-ever regular season title, the Lansing high school tennis team capped off it's regular season by winning the IAC Tournament title.

The IAC season tournament started on a Monday and due to rain delays was not wrapped up until the following Friday, leaving the Lansing tennis squad to watch and wait to see if their first day lead would hold up.

Leading the Lansing team in the IAC tournament on their way to the championship was it's formidable doubles team who put on a display of consistent and aggressive tennis.

Lansing placed first in all three doubles flights with the number one doubles team of Nicolo Gentile and Andy Parkes capping off a brilliant season by routing their Moravian rivals by a score of 6-1; 6-0 in the finals. Senior Nicolo Gentile finished his regular season with a perfect 12-0 mark while Andy Parkes, only in 8th grade, put on display the promise of this young squad.

At the number two doubles position it was another pairing of a senior with a younger classmate when senior Matt Tucci took the court with his ninth grade partner Nick Zarate to take on the pair from TAE. It was another convincing win for Lansing by a score of 6-3; 6-2 and notched another ten points for the team's total.

At the number three doubles position Ashley Fleming and Nicholas Geisler finished their season in style pairing up to win the IAC flight three doubles championship by a score of 6-1; 6-4. This kept both their perfect records intact and advanced Lansing closer towards the title.

With an additional sprinkling of crucial points from the four singles players, Keenan Hughes, Jonathan Sun, Lydia Warkentin and Mary Bacorn Lansing was able to edge out Moravia by 3 points and topped perennial powerhouse Elmira Notre Dame by 5 points to take the trophy and finish an outstanding season on a high note.

While the main draw was gaining most of the attention another draw was quietly unfolding on the outer courts which gives promise to the future of tennis at Lansing High. Not only were there several underclassmen/women who regularly started in the varsity lineup there was also an array of younger players constantly breathing down the neck of the starting squad, eager to break into the varsity lineup. This was evident in the exhibition tournament where the Lansing squad swept through the event, capturing every award.

In the exhibition doubles draw it was an all-Lansing affair where Louis Barrett and Luke Mehringer toppled teammates Woojin Richardson and Katherine Hornibrook.

In the girl's exhibition singles draw another Lansing pair faced off when Katie Jordan edged Sunah Bong.

In the boy's exhibition draw Lansing held forth with Thomas Bong defeating teammate Andrew Bertonica.

All in all the IAC tournament brought Lansing not only the crown but offered the hope of a promising collection of young tennis players.

Lansing won the regular season title and the IAC Tournament title. Here are the final results:
