swim 20151111 120Saturday November 7th, 2015 Owego, NY – The Owego Free Academy was host to the Section 4 Class C Championships where the Lansing Girls Varsity Swim and Dive capped off its 3rd perfect swimming season, dating back to the start of the 2013 season. The LadyCats would score a combined 479 points to take home the Sectional crown.  Team scores were as follows:


1. Lansing 479
2. Watkins Glen 429
3. Chenango Forks 299
4. Southern Cayuga Girls Varsity 233
5. Dryden 164
6. Odessa Montour Varsity Girls 145
7. Greene 106
8. Whitney Point Varsity 66
9. Unatego 16
 
Lansing swimmers of won 7 of the 12 events and fended off strong challenge from rival Watkins Glen who placed second ; giving Coaches Diane Hicks-Hughes and Shelly Matheny a 3rd Sectional Championship in as many years.

posticon Hall of Fame Announces 2015 Inductees

Lansing Central School will induct 2 former athletes, one contributor and one team into their Hall of Fame on Saturday night, December 26th at the Lake Watch Inn.  The 2015 Athletic Hall of Fame Class will induct four-time NY State champion Melissa Usack, who won the 2002 New York State title in the 800 meter run and anchored the 4 X 4 800 meter relay team to state championships in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Zacc Guragno, a two time Ithaca Journal football All-Star selection, who scored 904 points and pulled down 567 rebounds in his three years basketball career. Guragno was a member of the Track and Field Team and was a NY State qualifier in three events, 100 yard dash, 10.9, 200 yard dash 22.9 and high jump 6’ 5”. In football, he had 38 receptions for 968 yards and averaging 25.5 yards per catch as a senior. He was a first Section IV selection.

swim 1104 4710ASaturday October 31, 2015 Watkins Glen, NY – It was a Happy Halloween for the Ladycats Varsity Swimming and Diving when they gave Coach Diane Hicks-Hughes a big treat with a 3rd IAC Championship in a row. Overall team scores for the championships were:

1. Lansing - 484 

2. Watkins Glen - 382 

3. Waverly - 327.5

 4. Southern Cayuga - 252

 5. Dryden Varsity - 180.5

 6. Odessa Montour - 170 

7. Whitney Point - 86

swim 1105 120Wednesday November 4, Watkins Glen - Class C Sectional Preliminaries were held at the Watkins Glen Natatorium tonight; with over 120 athletes from 8 schools that make up the Section IV Class C ranks for Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving.

The LadyCats of Lansing are the 2013 & 2014 defending Section 4 Class C Champions. Looking to carry on the winning legacy and make it 3 in a row, Coaches Diane Hicks-Hughes and Shelly Matheny set up their varsity swimmers to competed strongly to be sure they had a large contingent represented at the finals.

Diving Finals are in Elmira on Friday November 6th and Swimming Finals are in Owego on Saturday November 7th.

posticon Kane Named Coach of the Year, Five Earn All-Conference

wellsGANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Head Coach Dan Kane of the Wells College men's soccer team was selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Coach of the Year following a poll of his peers, the league office announced Thursday. In addition, the Express earned a program-record five selections to the three NEAC All-Conference teams.

Senior Tyler Morris (Maryland, N.Y.) earned placement on the NEAC First Team while freshman Jack Pilgrim (North Kingstown, R.I.) was selected to the conference's Second Team. Senior Max Cherry (Ridgewood, N.J.), junior Jesse Constantino (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) and sophomore Owen May (Warsaw, N.Y.) were voted to the league's Third Team.

swim1022 120The Lansing Ladycats swimmers capped off their  3rd perfect (12-0) Dual Meet regular season Thursday in a row with a 96.5-59.5 win over Oddessa-Montour. The Lansing team’s regular season winning streak currently sits at 34 wins and goes back to the last regular season meet of the year in the 2012 vs. Dryden. 

It was a also a bitter sweet night as the LadyCats celebrated Senior Night. A fond tribute from the team was given to Team Captains Tori Swanson and Paige Kieper; as well as fellow swimmers Elizabeth Drake, Katie Dedrick, Amanda Van and Lauren Marzolf

posticon Lansing Soccer LadyCats Defeat Marathon, Head to Class C Sectional Final

soccer girlskick120The Lansing Girls Soccer team made it known early in their game on Wednesday versus Marathon that they would earn their spot again this year in the Class C Sectional Finals.  Only sixteen seconds into the game, Senior defender-turned-striker Maddie Czymmek put the ball in the net to give Lansing a quick lead.  Senior Reilly Zajac would follow with another goal only a few minutes later.

Czymmek, who was moved to striker only a few games ago, would hit another shot assisted by Senior Megan Dean less than ten minutes later, bringing the LadyCats to an early 3-0 lead.   Marathon Senior Ashley Bush would put Marathon on the board shortly after Czymmek's second goal.

soccer girls1The Lansing Ladycats celebrated Senior Night October 8th with a victory over Watkins Glen, maintaining their undefeated position in their league, and bringing their overall record to 10-2-1.

Senior Midfielder, Reilly Zajac, started the night off with a goal only minutes into the game with an assist by Freshman Liz Barre.   Five minutes into the game Junior Megan Dean received a pass from Junior Emma Dhmitri and sent the ball into the net, bringing the score to 2-0.

Sophomore Kassie Riemer maintained the scoring streak less than a minute later with an assist from Zajac. Watkins Glen couldn't gain possession of the ball in the first half, as the Lady Cats dominated offensively.  In the 12th minute of the game, Riemer took the ball on a break away and defeated the Watkins Glen keeper with her skilled footwork, tapping the ball into the net and bringing the score to 4-0.

swim 10 17 120Tuesday October 20, 2015, Waverly NY – The Lansing Ladycats swimmers defeated the Lady Wolverines of Waverly; 105-78 at the Waverly Natatorium. Coach Diane Hicks-Hughes swimmers moved to 11-0 in the IAC on the season. Lansing Swimmers also took 1st place in all events.

Scoring/Placing for Lansing by event was as follows.

200 Medley Relay

1st Place with a winning time and NEW Pool Record 1.59.29, the team of Paige Kieper (Back, 12, Capt.), Grace Ferris (Breast, 11), Katie Weaver (Fly, 11) and Libby Weaver (Free, 9) – 8 Points.
