Girls SoccerThe Dryden Lions hosted the Lansing Bobcats Monday in an exciting rival game.  Early in the first half, Lansing Lady Cats had a shot and Dryden’s goalie, Sarah Westcott, stopped the ball.  Unfortunately, she hit the frame and was subbed out for an evaluation.  She returned later in the first half.  The remainder of the first half was back and forth.  Both teams played a great defensive game.

The second half was much of the same, both teams giving it their all.  The later part of the 2nd half, Taylor Bennett took a free kick right outside the box.  The Lady Cat’s goalie, Lena Gisler, had a great save.  The game ended in a 0-0 tie, which led to overtime with two additional 10 minute halves.

Soccer and Football in LansingFall Recreation Department programs have launched, and that means soccer for grades K-6 and Football for ages 12 and under has begun.  Lansing Recreation Director Steve Colt says that enrollment has been so good for the two sports that his department has had to establish waiting lists.  About 184 kids are enrolled in soccer teams, and over 80 more in football.  A week ago 46 soccer coaches met to organize select their teams.

"It's a great turnout," says Colt.  "It should be a really good in-house season.  They did a great job of going through our system to talk about expectations, equipment, rules, scheduling, and choosing their teams.
