Ferris, a sophomore, placed 8th in the 200 individual event, and competed in the 500 IM at the Icatha College pool.  She shaved time off her previous 500 IM.  Going in she ranked in the 30s and cut it down to take her into the top ten.

"She demonstrated great sportsmanship," says Lansing School Superintendent Chris Pettograsso, who watched Ferris compete.

volleyball2_120For the third time this season the Lansing Bobcats and Trumansburg Blue Raiders met on the volleyball court deadlocked at a win each. And for the second straight time the Lady cats took out the broom. In a game which featured  high emotion, intensity, and most of all the chance to keep playing in the postseason, the Lady cats swept the Raiders for a second straight time 27-25, 25-20 and 25-19 in the quarter finals of the IAC section 4 playoffs.  In front of a loud Lansing cheering section the Cats fell behind 8-3 in Game 1, and late in the first frame trailed 18-13.

Using a tight two person bench rotation and 8 players overall the Cats hung tough down 22-20. From there the seniors led the charge, 2 hard aces by Meghan Judd and a Hannah Armstrong kill tied the score at 23. The rivals again were deadlocked at 25, before IAC player of the year Armstrong ended the game with an ace in a 27-25 game 1 victory, which featured 6 ties and 7 lead changes.

Overall it was a balanced effort, as coach Brenda Powers used all twelve of her players to build depth for the IAC stretch run. In game 1 there were two ties and 3 lead changes early on before Lansing took control on senior Keara Lowenhar's sharp return and junior Sam Detrick's power hit to lead 12-9. All conference senior Hannah Armstrong took over with two timely "push" shots, Lowenhar added a kill and senior Shalyn Watson's kill made it 18-11.  The Lansing balanced offense rolled on with Senior Jada Gooch firing home two late aces, in total the Cats scored 6 of the final 7 points to close out the frame.

posticon Tough Week for Lady Cats

Print Print
Pin It
volleyball2_120The Lansing Girls volleyball team suffered back to back loses for the first time this season and now faces a tough climb to claim the divisional IAC section 4 title. On Wednesday, October 10th the Ladycats took on Class A STAC foe Ithaca in Ithaca and dropped a tough 5 set match. Despite the loss the Ladycats gained valuable experience going up against a larger school, one they had beaten in a tournament hosted by Dryden the Saturday prior.

Despite the setback Lansing took the court on Friday, October 12th, for its rematch with IAC rival Southern Cayuga in Lansing. Right from the start it would prove to be a long night for the Cats. Falling behind early in game one 8-1, Lansing got a serious setback to its team chemistry when one of their senior leaders Keara Lowenhar left the game with a sprained ankle. Despite the large deficit the Cats inched back on the play of their seniors.
