ImageStarting in the coming school year Lansing schools will institute a new code of conduct.  At the July 12 Board of Education meeting Lansing High School Principal Eric Hartz presented the new code, explaining some of the reasons for significant changes.

"In the Spring of 2009 we started considering an athletic code of conduct that included academic eligibility and have a little higher set of expectations for our athletes," says Superintendent Stephen Grimm.  "An athlete could be failing four or five subjects and still be participating fully, off the radar of getting the intensive service that you really need."

On the offensive side, the teams’ batting average is 0.593 and their OBP (On Base Percentage) is 0.697. (These averages were created from the over 60 hits.)  They have hit three home runs (HR); one each from Danny, Nick and one grand slam from Peter.  Jake and Luke aided the pitchers by hitting base clearing triples.

ImageOn June 25, 2010, Erin O’Brien did one thing she’s never done, and one thing she rarely does… Erin graduated from Lansing High school, and she missed a swim meet, read on and learn how missing a swim meet is a big deal, and why Erin is a valuable member to the Lansing Community Aquatic Team and the entire Lansing Community as well.

Erin has been a member of the Lansing Community Aquatic Team (lcats) for 6 years, but has been swimming competitively since she was 6 or 7.   When her parents, Tim and Amy Obrien left Bar Harbor Maine and the MDI~ YMCA team, they knew they had to relocate someplace with a competitive swim team, and Lansing seemed perfect.

ImageKids came to the FIELD Saturday to test their strength, endurance, and skills at Cayuga Medical Center's first annual Athletic Performance Competition.  Kids competed in three age groups and in five events to identify strengths and weaknesses that impact their sports performance.  While the event was a competition to see how kids compared to other local athletes, the underlying purpose was to identify areas where they can improve.

"This is for kids to see how strong they are, how fast they are, how high they can jump," says Cayuga Medical Center Director of Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance John Winslow.  "We also offer classes to improve your speed, to improve your power.  It's to prevent injury and improve performance."

ImageHow many years was the Lansing varsity football team Tri-County League Champions since 1951?  What year did the team play seven shutouts?  What year was the team the IAC and Section 4 champs?  Who was the basketball coach between 1951 and 1958?  Where would you go to look up these statistics?  Old yearbooks, perhaps.  But now there is a handier resource in the Sports History Web page on the Lansing Central School District Web site.

"A number of months ago while researching information on teams  from the 1960s, I found myself looking through yearbooks in the high school library, only to note that many were missing from the 1940s through the 1980s," says Marty Christopher, Chairman of the Lansing Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee, and a Hall of Famer himself.  "I continued my search throughout offices at the school, finding a nearly complete set housed in the Lansing District Office. With the help of Patty Heaton, High School Librarian, and Sue French, District Treasurer, I was able to co-ordinate relocation of missing years to the District Office where we presently have nearly a complete set from 1932 through 2009."
