posticon Lansing Babe Ruths Win Championship

ImageThe Lansing Babe Ruth baseball team beat South Seneca for the League Championship at Ithaca College’s Freeman Field on July 30.  The score was 3-0.  The team has 8 wins, 3 losses, and one tie for the season.

In the 4th inning the team made a double play to end the inning, with the ball hit to centerfielder J. D. McKane, who caught it and threw the ball to 1st baseman Sam Currie to get out the runner returning to 1st.  The ball was hit to SS Troy Osterman who flipped it to 2nd baseman Ellington Hopkins to get the final out of the game.  Ellington Hopkins scored a stand-up triple in 6th inning to seal the win.

ImageLast Thursday and Friday Adam Heck coached about 50 kids in the High School gym with Basketball Camp.  Lamarr Peters coached soccer camp for about 30 kids at the Lansing High School soccer fields.

posticon Lansing Legions Defeat Ithaca

ImageLansing salvaged the final game of the three game summer series of American Legion Baseball versus Ithaca.  The Bobcats defeated the Little Red 6-4 in Lansing on Wednesday Evening.  Ithaca won the 2 previous meetings, 5-1 and then 5-4 in 10 innings.  The third matchup went to Lansing thanks to a 4 run 6th inning.

Ithaca opened the game with a first pitch double by Jeff Hodges.  Hodges then advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by the second batter, Anthony Massici.  Lansing answered in the bottom half of the first with Harrison Herzog's single that plated Brian Milliman.  The Little Red avoided further damage as Lansing's Nate Martin was thrown out trying to score on a great throw by Ithaca's Left Fielder Bret Lofgren.

ImageThe Lansing Stars/Momentum Builders/Korova women's softball team has yet to win a game, but we are getting better and coming very close, but overall having a lot of fun.  Here are some of the highlights:

7/7/09 vs. Wylie's Dry Cleaners     Final Score: 20 to 14

  • Torey Jacobs hit a single with a RBI in the 1st
  • Jess Uhrovcik got all 3 outs in the 2nd inning as the short stop
  • Mary Eldridge hit a single with a RBI in the 3rd
  • Erin Huyler caught a fly ball in left field in the 4th
  • Amanda Massa fielded a ball in center field and made the throw to second base in time to get the out during the 4th inning
  • Amy Fuhr hit a double over the left fielders head in the 5th
  • Erin Huyler hit a double over the left fielders head in the 5th
  • Amy Fuhr hit a single with a RBI in the 6th
  • Torrey Jacobs caught a fly ball in right field in the 7th
  • Erin Huyler hit a single with a RBI in the 7th

posticon Legions Win 2, Lose Semi-Finals

ImageThe Lansing Legions lost in the semi-finals to Corning at Damaschke Field (Oneonta Tigers Minor League Stadium).  This was the 12th Annual Oneonta Wood Bat Classic.  We lost in the final four 9-4 to Corning.  T.J. French picked up the loss.  5 innings pitched 6 hits 6 strike outs 8 walks 8 runs only four earned we committed 4 errors and all but 1 were costly.  T.J. had great focus but struggled to throw first pitch strikes.  Corning is really talented and Lansing would have had to play as well as we did Friday and Saturday to hang with them and we did not play well.  Brian Milliman was 2-2 with a double 2 runs 1 rbi and 1 sb.  Teagan Barresi was 2-4 with a double and an rbi.

posticon Lansing Legions 2-1 in Second Week

ImageDryden's Colby Gee hit a 2 out first inning homerun off of Lansing starter Nolan Milliman on June 23.  Lansing responded with 2 in their half of the first, 5 more in the second and two more in the third.  Matt Colbert threw 4 innings for Dryden striking out 8.  Pat Finnerty added 2 innings of scoreless relief for Dryden while also going 2-3 at the plate.  Colby Gee was 3-4 including the homerun for Dryden.

For the Lansing Legion Nolan Milliman started and went 4 striking out 4 and allowing 2 earned runs.  The Bobcats did not commit an error all night while pounding out 10 hits.  T.J. French and T.J. Cretney combined for 3 innings of shutout relief.  Cretney went 4-5 at the plate driving in 3 and scoring 3 times.  Brian Milliman (Nolan's older Brother) went 2-2 with a triple and 2 rbi.  Justin Payne was 1-1 with 3 bbs and drove in the 2 first inning runs.

posticon Lansing Baseball Opens With a Win

ImageThe 2009 Lansing American Legion Baseball Team opened the Summer with an 8-1 victory over Moravia's Legion team.  Justin Payne (headed to Herkimer C.C.) picked up the win while striking out 4 and scattering 4 hits over 4 innings.  Payne also added a pair of hits and rbis.  Josh Rodgers (Virginia Tech) earned the save with 3 solid innings in relief.

ImageThe Ithaca SufferJets Roller Derby team are gearing up to give some maple leaves a rakin’ when they take on Ottawa’s Capital Carnage Saturday, June 27th, at Cass Park Rink in their first-ever international bout.

The SufferJets opened their 2009 season during last month’s Ithaca Festival with a narrow and exciting victory over Rochester’s Roc City Roller Derby.  They hope to keep rolling in the victories as the excitement continues at Cass Park Rink.  Ithaca’s own DJs Bob and Luke of No Radio Productions will keep the fans rocking with an evening of hot tunes.  To honor the Canadian guests, the crowd will be encouraged to participate in a half-time Bryan Adams look-a-like contest.  Cass Park Rink will open its doors at 7:00 p.m., and the first whistle will blow at 7:30.

posticon Modified Baseball Undefeated

ImageThe Lansing Modified Baseball team finished up their season on Monday by defeating Trumansburg 24-0 in a rain shortened five inning game.  Sam Currie tossed the complete game shutout and a total team effort at the plate led to the team's largest run production of the season.  The win caps an undefeated season for the team (13-0), which bodes well for the future of Lansing Baseball.

The team was led throughout the season in pitching by Currie, Troy Osterman, Nate McIntosh, Alex Schutz, and Mason Carrican.  A cast of talented hitters aided the pitching efforts and were led by Currie, Schutz, Osterman, McIntosh, Greg Lehr, Clinton Herzog, Luke Mehringer, Ben Rourke, Zach Steiner, and Tucker Uhrovick.

ImageThe Lansing Stars/Momentum Builders/Korova women's softball team was defeated by the Felecia's team 14-4 Monday night at Union Fields in Cass Park.  Amy Fuhr batted 3 for 4, and Laura Hesson made 2 great catches in the outfield.   Jess Uhrovcik played like Jeter at shortstop making some great throws, stops and catches.

The team includes Mary Eldridge, Jess Uhrovcik, Katie "Red" Clapp, Amy Fuhr, Kelley Sullivan, Arlene Mackey, Rebecca Gray, Erin Huyler, Melanie Brumbaugh, Amanda Massa, Tiffany McLaughling, Alicia Mayers, Annie Eisenberg, Torrey Jacobs, Laura Hesson, Callen Golden, Susan Norton, Mary Forster, Katie Andryshak, Casey Lucier, and Laura Barrett.

posticon Varsity Softball Completes Season

ImageThe Lansing Varsity Softball season ended on Friday with a hard-fought battle against Watkins Glen. The Lansing girls jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning,only to give up 5 in the bottom half-all earned runs.

It was back and forth most of the game with Lansing threatening in the 5th and 6th inning with bigs hits from Nicole Arcangeli[3X3],Kelsey Quigley[2X3] and Nina Lindberg[2X4].

posticon Varsity Baseball Finishes Season

ImageThe Lansing Varsity Baseball team finished their regular season with a record of 14-4, missing out on the IAC play-offs by one game. Three seniors were selected as Division I IAC All-Stars; Matthew Ford, Justin Payne and Josh Rodgers.

Ford led the team in hitting with a .597 average and a team high 42 RBI's. Justin Payne had a .434 batting average and a 4-2 pitching record, while Rodgers finished with a .438 batting average and a 4-1 pitching record.

ImageThe Lansing boys varsity golf team improved to 15-0 on the season with recent wins over Dryden and Elmira-Notre Dame.  Results from the matches were as follows:
 
May 8th at Dryden Lakes:  Lansing 189  Dryden 218
Jess Esposito, Craig Esposito and  Austin more all shot 35.  Conor Stanhope had a season best score of 37 and Tim Carlson and Zach Myers shot 47 and 56 respectively.
