ImageLansing bested Newark Valley in IAC play on October 9th, took second place to Dryden at the Dryden Invitational tournament on the 11th, and put together a brilliant 25-13 game before falling to Dryden in an IAC match on the 14th.  Consistency will be key to realizing their terrific potential in end-of-season play.

In the Newark Valley match, Lansing won the first two games handily, but then had a mental letdown and needed five games to nail down the win (25-14, 25-17, 24-26, 22-25, 25-18).  Though plagued by errors, the team pulled together and showed it could deliver in a crunch.  Highpoints included Brooke Burke’s 9-point serving streak in game one, which included 4 of her 6 aces.  Desi Burke and Ashley Schuster had 4 service aces each, and Nicolo Gentile had 3.  Desi’s 18 assists fueled the offense, led by Ashley, Brooke, and Tory Cutting, with 10, 8, and 8 kills, respectively.  Kari Fenner led the defense with 29 digs, also contributing 6 kills.

It is certainly paying off for the girls, who are 12-0, undefeated with only three games left in the regular season.  A significant  element of a team's success is the coach, and Lansing's team has a unique and driven one.  Peters is a professional soccer trainer who came to Lansing after a successful college and pro soccer career.  Locally he is known for teaching WAZA FLO, which expands soccer training to include philosophical and spiritual training, a concept borrowed from martial arts.
