Diva Shrivastava, a 5th grade student at Lansing Middle School, has won 2nd place for her grade level in Mathnasium’s 2013 National TriMathlon math contest.

Shrivastava placed first, with a perfect score, among all 5th graders in the Mathnasium of Ithaca local TriMathlon, held last month, to qualify for the national competition.  Over 3,000 students from across the country participated in this year’s TriMathlon competition and Diva was one of 773 students at the 5th grade level to move onto the National tie-breaker competition.

She has earned $500 to be donated to her local school based on her performance in the national TriMathlon.

“The entire staff of Mathnasium of Ithaca is very proud of Diva, who not only won our local TriMathlon contest with a perfect score, but has now gone on to claim 2nd place in the national TriMathlon. A top national TriMathlon finish is no easy task, as Diva was up against the winners in her grade level from more than 200 Mathnasium locations.  Importantly, Diva has earned a significant cash donation for local schools, allowing her to share her fine performance with fellow students in the area,” said Ewan Barr, owner of the Mathnasium of Ithaca franchise.

Participation in the national TriMathlon was based on students’ test scores from their local TriMathlon contests. The 1st place winners at each grade level, 2-5, were automatically entered into the national TriMathlon.  Prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250 were awarded to local schools on behalf of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place national winners at each grade level.
