fab5 120Tompkins Connect, in collaboration with Tompkins Trust Company, Tompkins Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Tompkins County, celebrated the winners of the first annual Young Professional Fab 5 Awards last night at local Farm to Bistro restaurant, Coltivare. The Fab 5 Awards, which have been highly publicized throughout the community, caught fire with 120+ nominations.

The winners were congratulated at the awards event with 140 attendees.


  • Joey Durgin of Black Irish Athletics winner of the Entrepreneur of the Year award
  • Robert Lawlis of Cayuga Medical Center winner of the Business Leader of the Year award
  • David Shapiro of Family & Children's Services winner of the Non Profit Leader of the Year award
  • Emily Carroll with Hospicare of Ithaca winner of the Volunteer of the Year award
  • Ducson Nguyen with City of Ithaca winner of the Rookie of the Year award


These young professionals have shown tremendous success and passion through their work within this community.

The night was filled with fantastic food, drink specials and a room full of inspirational individuals. With wine, beer and food vendors from around the finger lakes, and the event being MC's by Mayor Svante Myrick, the night was one not to miss.
