Ithaca ...  The Tompkins County SPCA and the Community Arts Partnership are joining together for a special exhibit.   The Clinton House Artspace is curating an exhibit for the month of September entitled "Best Friends, 15 artists celebrate their pets". The show features 15 local artists' paintings, prints, drawings or photographs of their dogs and cats.

Gallery Night (where many downtown galleries open simultaneously) is September 7th and the SPCA will host the reception at the Clinton House and bring along some adoptable kitties!  This will be a very special night in downtown Ithaca and certainly, a very special Gallery Night.

Q. Cassetti, an artist in Trumansburg, will feature an image of Shady Grove, her dog.  An excerpt from the story which will accompany the image: "We took her for a walk in the field across from the SPCA, and she sprang and leapt, rolled in the snow - wiggling and rolling - making a doggie snow angel.  Happiness personified.  Tongue lolling and shiny eyes sparkling...we had a new member of our family."

Some participating artists have had pets for decades, but have never created an image of one.  Pam Drix, for example, was motivated by this show to create a gum transfer print of her 9 month old kitten, Zuzu, also adopted by the SPCA 2 days before this past Christmas.  Laurel Hecht, who has been painting for over 30 years, has never painted her dogs.  She is now!
