   Notice is hereby given that a public Budget Hearing of the residents of Lansing Central School District, Towns of Lansing, Dryden and Groton, Tompkins County, New York, qualified to vote at school meetings in said district, will be held at Lansing High School Library on Monday, May 5, 2008, 6:00 p.m., for the presentation of the budget.

    Notice is hereby given that pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education Law, personal registration of voters is required, and no person shall be entitled to vote at the Annual Meeting and Election to be held on May 20, 2008, whose name does not appear on the register of the District or who does not register as hereinafter provided, except a person who is otherwise qualified to vote and is registered under the provisions of Article 5 of the Election Law.  The times and place of registration are set forth below, and any person shall be entitled to have that person’s name placed upon such register, provided that at such meeting of the Board of Registration, that person is known or proven to the satisfaction of the Board of Registration, to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at the school meeting or election for which such register is prepared.

   The Board of Registration of the District will meet on Monday, May 5, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the High School Lobby Area to prepare the register of the School District for said Annual Meeting and Election and any person not heretofore registered shall be entitled to have his or her name placed upon such register, provided that at such meeting of the Board of Registration, he or she is known or proved to the satisfaction of such Board of Registration to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at said Annual Meeting and Election.

    Notice is hereby given that the Annual Meeting and Election of the residents of Lansing Central School District, Towns of Lansing, Dryden and Groton, Tompkins County, New York, qualified to vote at school meetings in said district, will be held at the Teacher Center located in R.C. Buckley Elementary School on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, for the transaction of such business as is authorized by the education law.  Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., for the purposes of adopting the school budget for the 2008-09 school year, adopting a proposal to purchase school buses, a van and truck with snow plow, and electing three members to the Board of Education.

    Notice is hereby given that pursuant to Section 1716 of the Education Law, that a copy of the statement for the amount of money, which may be required for the following year for school purposes, exclusive of public money, may be obtained by any resident in the District at the District Office during the fourteen days immediately preceding the annual budget vote and election, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., other than a Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday, together with the text of any resolution to be presented to the voters.  A copy of the detailed statement of estimated expenditures will also be made available at the Budget Hearing to be held on May 5, 2008.

    The following proposition shall also be voted on May 20, 2008:
    RESOLVED,
    The Lansing Board of Education is hereby authorized to undertake the acquisition of two (2) 70-passenger school buses, one (1) 54-passenger wheel chair bus, one (1) 6-passenger van, and one (1) truck with snow plow, at an estimated maximum aggregate cost of $359,000, and that such sum or so much thereof as may be necessary, shall be raised by the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments, with such tax to be partially offset by state aid available therefore; and in anticipation of such tax, debt obligations of the school district as may be necessary not to exceed such estimated maximum aggregate cost shall be issued.
   
   

    The following vacancies are to be filled on the Board of Education:

            Glenn Swanson        Last Incumbent

    The three candidates receiving the highest number of votes each will be elected to (3) three-year terms commencing on July 1, 2008.
   
    And notice is also given that petitions nominating candidates for the office of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District no later than Monday, April 21, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.
   
    Each petition must be directed to the Clerk of the District, must be signed by at least 31 qualified voters of the district, must state the residence of each signer and must state the name and residence of the candidate.  Petition forms are available at the office of the superintendent of schools, beginning Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
   
    And notice is hereby given, that applications for absentee ballots may be obtained by qualified voters beginning Friday, April 4, 2008 by contacting the School District Clerk between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays prior to the day set for the annual election. Completed applications must be received by the School District Clerk by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or on the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.  Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. prevailing time, on Tuesday, May 20, 2008.  A list of persons to whom absentee ballots are afforded will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the district in the office of the District Clerk between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays prior to the day set for the annual election, May 20, 2008.  On the day set for the election, said list will be posted at the polling place.  Any qualified voter present in the polling place may object to the voting of the ballot upon appropriate grounds for making his/her challenge and the reasons therefore known to the inspector of election before the close of the polls.
