hfh_grotonhomeGroton -- Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins & Cortland Counties (TCHFH) will host a Home Dedication Ceremony at 207 Barrows Street in Groton, NY on Saturday, September 21st at 3:00 PM.

The Wilcox Family was selected in April of this year, and has worked incredibly hard to complete their full 500 hours of 'sweat equity' in just 6 months! The family has contributed towards the construction of their home, as well as participating in homeownership education classes, volunteering time at Habitat events, and even preparing food for volunteers.

The Wilcoxes are the 19th family to move into a newly built Tompkins Cortland Habitat for Humanity home, and TCHFH is proud to be completing their first Women Build house.  To qualify as a Women Build house, at least 85% of the labor during construction must be completed by female volunteers or contractors.

Throughout the US, Lowes partners with Habitat’s Women Build program to train women volunteers in building skills and safety.  Volunteers then put these skills to good use by helping on the Habitat job site, empowering them to learn even more about home construction and maintenance. CFCU Community Credit Union generously sponsors our Women Build program locally, providing both funding and volunteers.

Habitat lends a “hand up” to families who are in need of a simple, decent, affordable place to live by helping them fund and build their own home.  Habitat Partner Families must have a need for adequate shelter, the ability to pay an affordable mortgage, and a willingness to partner with Habitat.
