Finger Lakes ReUse held a Ribbon Cutting and Open House Wednesday for it's greatly anticipated new ReUse Center. The new center is located at Triphammer Mall, near JoAnn Fabrics, The Rose Restaurant and Ithaca Bakery. Items were for sale at 50%-90% off market equivalents.

Tons of building materials, computers, electronics, house wares, furniture, and other goods are thrown away every day even though their usable life is far from over. Finger Lakes ReUse saves materials from going to the landfill and provides quality goods at affordable prices.

A sampling of items currently at the ReUse Center includes dining sets, chairs, bookshelves, French doors, cast iron brackets, ornate radiators, lighting, dimensional lumber, and more. The ReUse Center not only offers a convenient retail outlet, but also will serve as a community-gathering place and education center where people can exchange ideas and learn skills in transforming materials for new uses.

The ReUse Center is operated by Finger Lakes ReUse, Inc., an independent nonprofit organization with the mission to enhance community and environment through reuse. Finger Lakes ReUse has received support from the Tompkins County Solid Waste Management Division, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Ithaca College, Cornell University, Community Foundation of Tompkins County, Helen T. Howland Foundation, The Sunshine Lady Foundation, and The Appalachian Regional Commission, in addition to individual & private donations and collaborations with existing reuse and other community programs.

The ReUse Center will be open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
