Image(Ithaca, NY) The Pilates Room of Ithaca and Rasa Spa celebrated their 2nd anniversaries with an open house gala and birthday party Thursday. The celebration will be held at their spas and studios, which are located on the 2nd floor of the Island Health and Fitness Center, 310 Taughannock Blvd. in Ithaca. The event is free and open to the public, and will be highlighted by a ribbon cutting ceremony at 6:00 p.m.

Both female owned businesses offered free treatments and services such as Pilates demonstrations, massages, dips, waxes and consultations. Each also offered discounts on their services and treatments for those who would like to return in the future. Free food and live music was a part of the celebration along with many other activities, prizes and giveaways.

The Pilates Room employs 8 people and offers instruction and classes in modern Pilates. It recently joined forces with Sally Baker, the region’s premier classical Pilates trainer. This will allow it to offer both classical and modern Pilates to people seeking the non-impact mind and body conditioning and exercise that Pilates offers. The Pilates Room also donated a portion of its proceeds for the entire month of October to the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes, as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Rasa Spa has grown from a staff of 13 to a staff of 19, including 13 permanent licensed massage therapists, 2 estheticians, and 4 spa concierges. It’s also created a “Spa Benefits Card,” which is designed specifically for people undergoing a serious health crisis and in need of spa services such as those offered at Rasa. The card offers discounts on those services and is available through numerous local health care providers.

Pilates Room co-owner Tori Brown says, “The birthday party is a way for both of our businesses to say thank-you to our clients. We’re also encouraging people who aren’t clients, but are interested in either Pilates or the services and treatments offered at Rasa Spa to stop by as well. Pilates and spa treatments are often thought of as luxury items, but by offering free demonstrations and treatments, our goal is to help people understand that they can also help prevent injury and illness as effectively as they can treat them.”

The Pilates Room and Rasa Spa serve approximately 1,000 customers a month and both businesses have grown and expanded since they first opened their doors. Both are also locally owned and operated.
