stamm-6At its annual meeting, the New York State Economic Development Council elected Michael Stamm, president of Tompkins County Area Development (TCAD), chairman for 2012-13. Founded in 1964, TCAD is a private, not-for-profit local development corporation with the primary mission of creating quality employment opportunities and strengthening the local tax base. To support its mission, TCAD manages an Industrial Development Agency, an Empire Zone, and several revolving loan funds.

TCAD also oversees a comprehensive economic development strategy and has recently assumed responsibility for creating a workforce investment strategy.

Stamm earned a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University and a master's degree from the University of Buffalo.

The New York State Economic Development Council is the state's principal organization representing economic development professionals. It's 900 members include the leadership of Industrial Development Agencies, Local Development Corporations, commercial and investment banks, underwriters, bond counsels, utilities, chambers of commerce and private corporations.
