August 17, 2007 (ITHACA, NY) - After weeks of training with theatre professionals, students from the Theatre School and Theatre Lab programs at the Hangar Theatre's Next Generation School of Theatre will take to the stage in two separate productions. From Thursday, August 23rd through Saturday, August 25th, members of the Theatre School program will hit the KIDDSTUFF stage with a magical interpretation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.

Since July 16th, the cast-which consists of kids who have completed grades 6 through 8-has had the opportunity to take elective theatre courses with professional artists, attend Hangar Mainstage and KIDDSTUFF productions, and prepare and rehearse for this production. Featuring direction by former Lab Company director Peter James Cook, Alice in Wonderland will be performed twice each day-at 10 am and again at Noon.

At the same time, the High School students that make up the Next Generation Theatre Lab program will be putting a new twist on an old classic. From Thursday, August 23rd through Saturday, August 25th, the Theatre Lab will present Columbinus in the Hangar's experimental space known as the Wedge. A cutting-edge, recent off-Broadway hit, Columbinus explores the aftermath of the 1999 high school shootings in Littleton, Colorado.

Weaving together excerpts from discussions with parents, survivors and community leaders in Littleton, Columbinus reveals what it refers to as "the dark recesses of American adolescence." The piece is being directed by the Hangar's Education and Outreach Coordinator, Jesse Bush.

Columbinus will be performed six times in the Wedge: Thursday, August 23rd at 5:30 pm and 10:30 pm, Friday, August 24th and Saturday, August 25th at 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm each night. Theatre Lab students have been taking classes day and night with professional artists and attending all Hangar Theatre performances. This intensive three week program has attracted aspiring young actors and actresses from as far away as Connecticut to be part of the new Next Generation School of Theatre.
