ITHACA, NY - Garth Fagan Dance will perform at the Cornell University Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts on September 27, 2007 at 7:30 pm for a one-evening-only performance.  Garth Fagan Dance, based in Rochester, New York, is in its 36th anniversary season.  The modern dance company is known for its individuality, unmannered approach and innovative style.  Their unique movement comes from years of training in the Fagan Technique, excelling in torso-centered movement, Afro-Caribbean energy, ballet precision, and rule-breaking experimentation.

Artistic director and founder Garth Fagan is renowned as "one of the great reformers of American dance."  In 1998 Fagan received a Tony Award for Best Choreography for smash Broadway hit The Lion King.  Other awards he received for The Lion King include 1998 Drama Desk Award, 1998 Outer Critics Circle Award, and a 2001 Ovation Award. In 1989 Fagan received a Guggenheim Fellowship.

Garth Fagan Dance will perform some of their well-known pieces at the Schwartz Center.  The evening will include "Prelude," "Detail: Down Home Also" (an excerpt from DANCECOLLAGEFORROMIE), "River Song" (an excerpt from Earth Eagle First Circle), "Senku," and "Translation Transition." The Fagan Company has been recognized for its excellence with a New York Governor's Arts Award. They have also been seen on the "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno and on PBS in "Great Performances - Dance in America."
