ITHACA, NY - What do you get when you mix three bedrooms, four couples, a brewing divorce, and a party? Alan Ayckbourn's comic play Bedroom Farce. Nominated for two Tony Awards, this frenzied farce focuses on the marital problems of the troublesome Trevor and Susannah as they wreak havoc on the lives of their couple friends at a weekend housewarming party. Bedroom Farce opens Wednesday, October 17, at the Cornell Schwartz Center.

"Ayckbourn writes humorously about the human difficulties of real relationships," said Director Stephen Cole, "like what happens when you wake up and decide you don't like who you've been sleeping with for the past five years." Cole, who is retiring, is directing his final show at the Cornell Schwartz Center after 32 years with the department.

Ayckbourn is one of England's most prolific and produced playwrights. Ten of his plays have been staged on Broadway and more have been translated to film and television. Major successes include Absurd Person Singular, The Norman Conquests, Just Between Ourselves, and House & Garden.

The Cornell production of Bedroom Farce features a talented cast of both Equity and student actors. RPTAs Paul Hebron and Sonja Lanzener play Ernest and Delia alongside Cornell students Jon Delikat (Malcolm), Ian Harkins (Nick), Ian Jones (Trevor), Katie Lane (Kate), Akilah Terry (Jan), and Alex Viola (Susannah). Designers for the show are: Lisa Boquist (costumes), Warren Cross (sound), E.D. Intemann (set), and Ford Sellers (lights).

Evening performances of Bedroom Farce are October 17-21 and 24-27 at 7:30 PM. Three matinees will be offered at 2 pm on October 21, 27-28. A post-show discussion with actors and designers will be held October 25.
