dragonboat1Have you ever looked out across beautiful Cayuga Lake and wished that you had a way to enjoy the water? What if you could have access to a boat, network with a team of community members from all walks of life, and have the opportunity to paddle all over the East Coast? Over a thousand racers and spectators attend the Finger Lakes International Dragon Boat Festival each summer, and learn how to take advantage of an amazing opportunity to enjoy Cayuga Lake and watch paddlers of all skill levels compete.

The Ithaca Asian American Association, Ithaca and Tompkins County YMCA, Paddle‐N‐More, and Cayuga Medical Center ‐ Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance are holding an open house to introduce the public to Dragon Boating as  well as Stand-Up Paddle Boarding, on May 11th from 1-4pm at Cass Park.

Coaches, experienced paddlers, boats, life jackets, paddles and everything you need to learn about Dragon Boating and Stand-Paddle Boarding will be on-site at the Cass Park dock. Even if you’ve never set “foot” on water before, you will have the chance to try out Dragon Boating and Paddle Boarding for free! Childcare will be provided by the YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County, so feel to bring the entire family for an afternoon of fun, and prepare to get wet!

If you catch Dragon Boat fever, you will have the chance to learn how you can participate in this year’s Finger Lakes International Dragon Boat Festival on a team of your own. The festival will be held on July 13th and 14th, and you can build your own team of 20 racers to compete against other community teams.
