crs_ml_120The 6th annual Moving Landscapes performance continues the CRS Barn Studio tradition of bringing innovative dance and music partnerships to Ithaca audiences. Beginning with an outdoor prologue performed in the gardens, with a panoramic view of Cayuga Lake, choreographed pieces in a variety of dance styles will alternate with improvisations that engage audience members in a lively creative process. This is a rare opportunity to see choreographic work in all stages of development and to observe dance-making in action, in an informal setting.

Moving Landscapes 6 will showcase work from Ithaca, Geneva, and Rochester, as well as live music. Choreographers include Jeanne Goddard, Donna Davenport, Holly Hibbert, Kelly Johnson, Joyce Morgenroth, Dana Robson, Jim Self, and others, in collaboration with dancers Lisa Bertuzzi, Ariel Fajardo, Risa Lieberwitz, and Yvette Rubio. Baritone Steven Stull and pianist Richard Montgomery will accompany the dancers and will also perform a selection of classical and traditional songs.

This summer Jeanne Goddard will premier a suite of three short dances: "Three Studies for a Decorated Vessel", inspired by the geometry and surface textures of art pottery. "Presence", choreographed and performed by Holly Hibbert, is a simple and personal lyrical solo about spiritual hunger. Joyce Morgenroth will dance a solo accompanied by prepared piano, and Dana Robson will perform with her daughter, a cellist. Donna Davenport will perform "Impulse" (2013), one of 40 nuggets choreographed to honor 40 years of Women's Studies at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and "Essere II"/To Be (2002), a solo choreographed in Rome, Italy, as a response to the hypocrisy of the homeless sleeping on the street, yards away from the immense wealth of the Vatican.

A reception following the performance will give audience members a chance to meet the artists and even offer feedback on dance works in progress. The performance will take place rain or shine, Sunday, August 18 at 7:30 pm, at the CRS Barn Studio. Admission is free, with donations accepted at the door.
