hanna_rep_120U.S. Rep. Richard HannaWashington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna (R, C, I-Barneveld) will use his insight from more than 30 years experience in the private sector as he joins the House Small Business Committee.

Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-Mo.) made the announcement Tuesday.

“As a small businessman for over three decades, I know that if small business does not do well, then this country will not do well,” Hanna said. “We need low, predictable taxes, less red tape, and new ways to encourage business formation. I look forward to working with Chairman Graves and the entire Committee to help create an environment where business can thrive.”

“Congressman Hanna has a long history of creating private-sector jobs, balancing a real budget and making tough decisions,” Chairman Graves said. “His real-world experience will be of immense value to the Committee. Richard knows first-hand how tax increases and burdensome government regulations kill jobs and thus, how vital it is to remove these barriers and help foster an environment where small businesses can expand and create jobs.”

Hanna understands the negative impacts government red tape and regulations can have on small businesses, which is why the first piece of legislation Hanna co-sponsored was to repeal a 1099 reporting provision contained in the health care bill signed into law last year.

Hanna, who started a business from the ground up, knows that putting costly tax filing requirements on small businesses hinders the ability to create jobs. It was repealed earlier this month.

“I am very pleased that the House voted to repeal the onerous 1099 provision,” Hanna said.

Hanna said he looks forward to working with Chairman Graves and the entire Small Business Committee.
