school_bus_120Wednesday (March 20th) Acting School Superintendent Chris Pettograsso sent a letter to parents warning of a suspicious driver that had approached a Lansing elementary school student who was waiting for the school bus near Collins Road in Freeville.  A blue sedan stopped and a male driver attempted to speak to the girl until her mother opened the door and approached.  The car sped off and did not return.

The next day Pettograsso issued an update with another report of a white male in his 20s, driving a blue sedan that slowed down to follow a Lansing student walking on Goodman Road in Groton.  He followed for a short time, then drove away.  Both incidents were reported to the police.

Pettograsso cautioned parents to talk to their children about what to do when approached by strangers.  She told parents to be on the lookout for a blue sedan that may have two bumper stickers on the left side of the rear bumper.  She added that district officials are working closely with local authorities.

Thursday (yesterday) she issued a heightened alert.  Yet another incident occurred at Myers Park Wednesday afternoon.  A white male got out of his car and approached two children.  When one of the children used his cell phone to contact his parent, the male turned around and walked back to his car.  The students said the car was a blue sedan.

The alert says the police deem all three reports to be credible and are diligently working on this case.  She asked that any additional information or concerns regarding these incidents be reported to her or the County Sheriff.

Pettograsso says the district is increasing the alert.  She requested that parents have their children walk in pairs, and asked parents to walk their children to the bus and wait with them, or to make sure they are not waiting alone.
